Why we Started This Site: My Journey with Type 2 Diabetes

I was at home when the phone rang. It was my doctor. Her voice was calm but direct: “Nadine, you have type 2 diabetes. Don’t eat sugar.” Silence. Then she asked, “Do you have any questions?”

I barely managed to whisper, “No.” The call ended.

And that was it. No guidance, no roadmap, no answers. I sat there frozen, terrified of what this diagnosis meant for my future. What was I supposed to eat? What could I no longer enjoy? Could I reverse this? Google searches left me overwhelmed. It felt like I was drowning in a sea of conflicting advice and technical jargon.

That experience—being left alone with so many questions—ignited a spark in me. I decided I wouldn’t let anyone else feel the way I did. This site exists because I want to provide what I didn’t have: a clear, supportive guide to navigating life with type 2 diabetes.

Here, you’ll find practical tips, science-backed advice, and, most importantly, a community that understands. Together, we can manage diabetes and thrive. You’re not alone—because I know what that feels like, and I refuse to let you face this journey without a lifeline.

Rick’s journey into the health and wellness space began with personal observations and family history. Growing up, he witnessed the impact of diabetes firsthand through his father, who was sedentary after work and eventually diagnosed with the condition. Guided by his mother, a dietician, his father adopted healthier meal options, leading to weight loss and improved health. Despite this, Rick and his brother dismissed concerns about their predisposition to diabetes during their youth, believing they were invincible.

In his forties, Rick was diagnosed with pre-diabetes. Though he maintained this status for years, stress and a lack of exercise in his fifties led him to cross the threshold into full diabetes. Confronted with the complications he’d seen in others, including his father’s severe stroke and health issues in his community, Rick was determined to fight back.

After consulting with an endocrinologist, he embarked on a strict diet and exercise plan. Within weeks, Rick reversed his diabetes, returning to a pre-diabetic state. His commitment to this lifestyle led to significant weight loss and renewed energy. However, like many, he faced challenges maintaining these changes, with vacations and social events causing setbacks.

Through these experiences, Rick realized that diet and exercise were not temporary solutions but essential components of a healthy lifestyle. Today, he is committed to sharing his story and inspiring others, especially within the Caribbean and Black communities, to embrace health and wellness for better outcomes and longevity. His journey exemplifies resilience and the transformative power of intentional living.
